What is an asthma attack?
On a normal breathe , the muscles around the airways allows, the movement of air easily and quietly. But during an Asthma attack the muscles around the airways tightens, When this happens, it makes difficult for air to pass through the airways.
Asthma can also happen; if the lining of the airways becomes swollen, and because of this swollen, little air is allowed in or out of the lungs.
Mucus production can also lead Asthma, this is due to the production of more mucus, this mucus blocks the airway to the lung
What are the Types of Asthma known?
Types of Asthma is based on the severity of symptoms, and the cause.
Intermittent: This type of asthma comes and goes
Persistent: The symptoms of this type of Asthma come frequently.
Other types of Asthma can also be:
Pediatric: Also called childhood asthma. It begins at childhood.
Adult-onset: This type of asthma starts after the age of 18.
Who can get asthma?
Anyone can develop asthma at any age. People with allergies or people exposed to tobacco smoke are more likely to develop asthma.
What Causes Asthma?
Environmental factors: People can develop asthma after exposure to things that irritate the airways. These substances include allergens, toxins, fumes and second- or third-hand smoke. These can be especially harmful to infants and young children whose immune systems haven’t finished developing.
Genetics: If your family has a history of asthma or allergic diseases, you have a higher risk of developing the disease.
Respiratory infections: Certain respiratory infections, such as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), can damage young children’s developing lungs.
Allergies: Some people’s allergies can cause an asthma attack. These include things like molds, , pollens and pet dander.
External factors: external factors such as smoke, dust, air pollution can cause asthma.
The signs and symptoms of Asthma resembles many respiratory infections:
- Chest tightness, pain or pressure.
- Coughing (especially at night).
- Shortness of breath.
- Wheezing

If test shows you have asthma, you’ll need to find out what triggers the attack. Avoiding the triggers can help you avoid an attack.
What should I do if I have a severe asthma attack?
The first thing you should do is use your rescue inhaler. It uses fast-acting medicines to open up your airways.
Can asthma be cured?
No. Asthma can’t be cured, but it can be managed. Children may outgrow asthma as they get older.
